Helpful: The perks of being in a frat
True, Ralph Nader, Margaret Thatcher and Colin Powell came to campus when I was at Baylor, but we never had anything like this happen.

Helpful: Cut food
Yeah, so I still haven't uploaded the tunes, put links in my concert write-up, or done any other blogging in days. I know, I know. Go make yourself a salad and wait patiently.

Interesting: Concert review
Links to follow tomorrow. Google 'em yourself in the meantime.
Went and saw the Decemberists at Metro tonight. Indigo highly recommended them, and I was pretty pleased. I say, when the nerd war begins, grab yourself a band like the Decemberists. They won't let you down. Nerdy singers, violin, accordion, double bass, breath-powered hand-keyboards. A song about playing soccer.
The lead singer has a Irish/Canadian/something-or-other accent that makes it sound like each syllable gets a bonus vowel sound or two. But oh, the tunes are freakin catchy.
Downside -- the 15-minute encore song. By the end, people were just ready to leave.
Anyway, worth the ticket price and I'll be adding them to my collection at some point.
Walking home, I got stopped by two cops, who apparently were chasing some guy through an alley and happened upon me instead. The one cop asked where I was coming from, and I said the Metro. He asked who played, and I said "The Decemberists." They asked some more questions and let me go, but it then occurred to me that this band from Portland has picked a really silly name. I mean you sound like a nerd just pronouncing it correctly!
Good night all.

Interesting: Go Bears
While I find it hard to support the university itself, I'm happy for the Baylor women's basketball team, who kicked serious ass last night in the NCAA finals.
Any Baylor alumni or students who don't bash gays or try to "save me for Jesus" are ok in my book.

Helpful: Free Tunes
One of my co-workers has some free downloads from her label's website. Her band is The Reputation. So I guess this is just a reminder post so I can download them Later. Ted Leo and the Pharmacists are supposed to be good, too. At least, Cindy's hip cousins think so. Oh yeah, Green Day's also on the label.
Pops is in town this weekend, and if he gives permission, I hope to put up links to a couple of cuts from his new CD. Since Luke has already published all his demos and Dad and his crew put in 55 hours in the studio to ink this new disc, I feel like I need to compete. Maybe I'll cut a spoken word album.
So here's the weekend: Sin City, cross-train, do Mike's taxes, watch hoops with Dad, run the Shamrock Shuffle, see Poi Dog Pondering after the race. Sweet.

Happy Easter
Good Friday was a great service -- very poignant, especially with Mom in town to share the time. I really love our church. That's weird to say, but what the hell. It's the night before Easter. There was good basketball on tonight, I'm listening to Ron Sexsmith, drinking wine, blogging, and the kick-ass Stratta I made for brunch tomorrow is tha bomb. Life is friggin great.
Cease and Desist
Under advice of counsel (who I last saw at a Halloween party dressed as a beast of pure evil,) I will no longer be writing on this weblog about any "games of chance," "poker games for money," or other "activities contrary to Illinois State Law" which may be committed in my presence. This will help me in my political campaigns, and make the job of my future campaign press secretary (Scott or Josh, whoever will work for less) much easier, or so I am told. That is all.

Long time
Regular blogging has been out of the question this week. Too much going on taking up my time, no really interesting political stuff. I did go to see the latest Striding Lion show last night with a few friends and Cindy and Mom. It is a trippy show, to say the least. Inspired by Frank Zappa. Need I say more. But these guys continue to blow me away with their talent for music and dance.
Good Friday service tonight, having people over for Easter Sunday, maybe some really good news next week, a new poker league starts Wednesday, a community meeting that same Wednesday, Dad's in town next Saturday, Final Four -- hello!, the <"http://www.shamrockshuffle.com">Shamrock Shuffle next Sunday, and so on and so on.
By the way, I should mention that I am officially over snow.
